In the final project, I plan to photograph ice cubes or ice balls with micro toy figures in them. I will use moulds to make ice cubes and layered them together as a scene like the polar region. And I will also put toy figures in the water when I ice it. To set the scene, I will use black cardboard or backdrop to minimalize information, then audiences will just focus on objects in the photo. Ice cubes/balls are easy to make, and toy figures are also easy to manage. Therefore, this setting gives me chances to revise the details after I receive critiques.  Inspired by a documentary called Our Planet , I was amazed by the magnificent ice burgs and great flocks of polar animals.  Bert Teunissen Bert Teunissen is a Dutch photographer born in 1959 in Ruulro, Gelderland. Since 1996, Teunissen has been photographing European homes built before WW2 and their inhabitants. In the book Domestic Landscapes by Bert Teunissen we see European people sitting within a room that is their space within their home. Teunissen uses a small aperture to capture all the details from the subject to their background that shows their atmosphere. Teunissen typically takes photos of singular people but also doesn’t stray away from groups. Most people Teunissen uses are sitting down and have a straight face. When Teunissen takes photos of people he uses the natural light from the windows and takes in as much of it as he can. This light creates shadows but depicts the house in its natural state just like the people within the photo, they are in their natural state of their home reading, smoking, eating just as they would on any day. Kathy Ryan Kathy Ryan has been the director of photography for the New York Times since 1987. She is widely known for her book, “Office Romance”, that is focused entirely on the The New York Times office building, making a seemingly mundane place, very abstract and interesting to look at. Her photographs are told through her love for light which brings a wide range of geometric shapes to each image. She turns her creative energy towards capturing light and what it can do to make a powerful image. Her use of shadows, and intentional contrast is a signature look for her photographic style. During her time at The New York Times, the magazine has been recognized with numerous photography awards, such as the National Magazine Award in both 2011 and 2012. Kathy studied art and art history at Rutgers University and currently gives lectures on photography and serves as a mentor at the School of Visual Arts in New York City.

Claire Yaffa Claire Yaffa is a freelancer known for works she documented for a diversity of medical organizations. Her photography rooted in social realism that strives to portray the image of ordinary individuals with difficulties in life especially for the children and homelessness. Her photography is mainly monochromatic with a sense of observation. In the book Light and Shadow , she chose to focus on the abstraction brought by the human body and frond. These monochrome photos were made with dramatic sunlight, they presented in a sensual emotion. Yaffa recorded curvature of torsos with extreme close-ups, and it made viewers taking more time to figure out the object and the broader picture outside the frame. They combined with images of veins, I somehow cannot recognize which one is the human body. Style Pictures Ansel Adams Ansel Adams was an American photographer and environmentalist born in San Francisco. Ansel was a very hyperactive child and continuously had to change schools, at one point he was withdrawn and studied at home for two years. After a long process he finally graduated high school and was able to pursue his passion for photography. His love for art began when he was 12  and was given his first camera before taking a trip to Yosemite National Park. He cared deeply about the environment and he became the president of the Sierra club and he worked as a technician for Kodak. He became a very large advocates for environmental conservation and his photographs became centered around that. Most of his images were taken in the American West. Ansel was a deeply religious person and felt through nature and the natural world, he could connect to God. Joachim Brohm Joachim Brohm was born in 1955 in Dülken, Germany. Joachim attended Folkwang University of Essen in 1983 where he studied communications. He proceeded to study at the Ohio State University where he achieved his Master of Fine Art in the Department of Photography and Cinema. After completing his higher education, he began doing freelance photography as well as teaching at colleges such as Northern Illinois University, Salzburg College, and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Since the 1980’s his photography has been concentrated on urban life as well as the suburban perimeter. His photographs are all made with a medium format film camera. In terms of photographic style, Joachim takes many of his images from eye level aside from a few images, such parking lots to provide a sense of detachment.
