Experimental Photography: Framing
For my final project, I focused on different ways to frame a subject. I’ve always found it fascinating how natural and artificial frames could be used. Doing this project helped me to focus on the composition of my photos and how to interact with people on a personal level to make them comfortable being photographed. I thought there would be an unlimited amount of possibilities for this project, but it was hard to get just the right shot and take into account how far away my subject must be for the framing to work.
The critiques in class were extremely helpful in deciding where to take my project. I always like to get feedback on my work to help me improve and become a better photographer.  I want the viewer to spend time with my work. I think it will give the viewer something fresh to view. My hope is that they will wonder how or what each frame is. The main challenge I ran into was finding people to photograph that had the time to sit with me and collaborate. One of my goals from this project was to work with my subject in a collaborative way, this way they would be more comfortable when the pictures were taken. The second problem I ran into was determining what I would use as frames and what would work as good frames. I solved this by working with my subject and those around me to brainstorm what I could use.
I also had to decide between color and monochrome as well as luster or matte. I decided on monochrome and luster. The luster paper allows the blacks to be bolder and helps to and for my subjects to stand out more. The monochrome added more depth to the frames.
