Garrett Curfman Final project proposal Photo 202 For my final project I have decided to take photos of city atmospheres. This includes the backsides of building, and items that reflect a “backstage” view of the atmosphere. I chose to do this because I love cities. New York City is my favorite place. Myself alone in the maze of concrete buildings and seeing all the unique aspects of the city get me inspired to create. There is so much personality and stories to be told by the streets and buildings that I pass every day in downtown State college.  I have photographed buildings, streets, alleys, and different items found in the city environment that further reflect where the photos are taken. I met a few challenges when creating this project. One was the weather. It has been a cold few weeks so the amount of time I spent outside was much smaller than I anticipated. Another is locations. Bailey K. Baier For my final photography project, I photographed doors. Doors in photographs can evoke a narrative from the viewer, telling a story about the history, location and culture of a place. Photographing this subject invites the viewer to explore a world created by our imagination  beyond those doors. Every door in my photographs acts as a character to the viewer. Some obstacles that I came across were correcting the symmetry in my photos and framing my images in a way that displays why the viewer would find the door interesting, whether it be the door itself or including more architectural elements to provide context. Weather was a slight issue during this process and I have to revisit a few sites several times. After viewing all of my images together I would have done some things differently, such as reframing some of the images that I took from farther away. Experimental Photography: Framing For my final project, I focused on different ways to frame a subject. I’ve always found it fascinating how natural and artificial frames could be used. Doing this project helped me to focus on the composition of my photos and how to interact with people on a personal level to make them comfortable being photographed. I thought there would be an unlimited amount of possibilities for this project, but it was hard to get just the right shot and take into account how far away my subject must be for the framing to work.  The critiques in class were extremely helpful in deciding where to take my project. I always like to get feedback on my work to help me improve and become a better photographer.  I want the viewer to spend time with my work. I think it will give the viewer something fresh to view. As I started this project I decided I wanted to photograph nature with a new perspective, one that most people never saw. In a way that was what I did, but it developed to be more about what I saw in nature that interested me. I started focusing on photographing the small moments in nature that caught my attention and made me find nature so beautiful and alluring. I also found myself trying to see things from a different perspective, at some points I would sit on the ground and take in the scenery to see what caught my attention. I wanted to photograph in this way because I think, now especially, life is moving very fast and a lot of times we don’t take time to appreciate the little moments, we no longer stop and smell the roses. Now with the issue of climate change as well, I wanted to show nature to remind people what could be lost. I think that having a passion for the natural world even better helps me to portray how I feel in my work and it will help others see the beauty of ever...
