Leamy: Final Project Proposal Revisited
Final Proposal
For my final project, I intend on following a similar vein from my style project and photographing homes that have a sense of personality and uniqueness to them, specifically in State College, Philadelphia, Downingtown, and West Chester. I want to photograph this subject because I personally find homes very appealing and I think they have extreme potential to tell a story to a viewer that perhaps would have been unexplored otherwise. Furthermore, I want to address the discrepancies present among different towns and their houses (State College versus living spaces in Philadelphia versus another suburban areas of Downingtown and West Chester). I think that the photos could work well in conversation with one another in sharing more about a town and perhaps the people that may live in that area.
I intend on visiting Philadelphia and my hometown and photographing homes there, and bringing these images back to compare with images taken in State College. My hope is to have groups of images that highlight differences between homes in varying cities, yet still somehow work in conversation together. I think that this subject could be interesting to viewers because it is specific enough that people can localize themselves in it, yet not too specific that people feel as though they cannot relate to it or understand it. Furthermore, everyone has had some experience with homes so it could spark interest in viewers to try and imagine what may happen in and around these homes. I think that my biggest challenge will be finding unique homes in Philadelphia that mesh well with the suburban homes in State College, West Chester, and Downingtown, as the contrast between city and suburbs will be very prevalent.
