Leamy: Final Project Proposal Revisited

Final Proposal              For my final project, I intend on following a similar vein from my style project and photographing homes that have a sense of personality and uniqueness to them, specifically in State College, Philadelphia, Downingtown, and West Chester. I want to photograph this subject because I personally find homes very appealing and I think they have extreme potential to tell a story to a viewer that perhaps would have been unexplored otherwise. Furthermore, I want to address the discrepancies present among different towns and their houses (State College versus living spaces in Philadelphia versus another suburban areas of Downingtown and West Chester). I think that the photos could work well in conversation with one another in sharing more about a town and perhaps the people that may live in that area.              I intend on visiting...

McDermott - Final Project Proposal

Megan McDermott Subject: Landscape photography, elemental  For my final project I intend to photograph nature in its elemental state. I want to explore photography in this area because while doing the ‘style’ assignment I was inspired by the works of Harry Callahan and his unique composition of elements of nature. He photographed not a large expanse of nature but narrowed it down to small frames filled with elements that have no apparent narrative or progression to them. This allows the viewer to look at the image without any preconceived notions of the subject or the meaning behind the photograph thus letting them give meaning to the photograph or see slight details that would otherwise be overlooked. Since my subject is the great outdoors, revisiting it should not be too hard. However, there are a few different places that I want to photograph including Whipple Dam, a park on the way to a dog shelter I visit and Rothrock State Forest. Some of these places wil...

Emma Cotter - Final Project Proposal

I intend to photograph nature, but with a new perspective. I want to photograph the parts of nature that are seemingly small and overlooked by most people. I want to do this because I think many people overlook what makes up our Earth and how important everything is, no matter how small. Especially in today’s day and age, dealing with the climate crisis, I think showing the beauty of nature in new ways can be eye opening. I also want to photograph nature because it has always held a special place in my heart, I’ve always loved trying to see things on a deeper level and showing how I see nature to the rest of the world. I have always enjoyed photographing images that have a deeper meaning, and for me this is about bringing awareness to the current climate crisis, in a very subtle way, and making people think about what they would be losing. Hearing feedback is one of my favorite parts of photography. Photography can be very subjective, so hearing what people think it means/how it mak...

Woolslager- Final Project Proposal

202 Final Proposal -- Tess Woolslager For this final photography project I would like to concentrate on portraits. Throughout my photographic “career” I have always found people as my favorite subject to capture. Each face is so different from another-- every smile radiates a different light and each pair of eyes is a new insight into someone’s soul. There is something so special about capturing someone in their rawest form, and making them feel comfortable to be photographed by you. Another reason why I want to focus on portraits is because people’s faces tell a story. There’s a big difference between a forced smile, and a soft gaze into a lens. I want each of my images to tell a real story about my subjects, cutting out the bullshit of a fake smile and posed stance. These photos will be authentic and raw with the intent of making the viewer know a little bit about each subject even though they’ve never met before. I am always happy to receive constructive criticism from ...

Born in 1933 and died in 2008. He started in paintings. He used film cameras. He also did a lot of work with shadows and cut outs. Where he takes a photo of someone and inserts the image so that there is an image behind and the cut out or just light placed. HE also did movie work as a director. Mostly horizontal photos. By using different shapes he shows how light can effect those spaces. I put a modern touch to the photos by using color and object. Moving my backgrounds into different positions to find the best light through the shape I had.

He obtained an MFA in Photography from the Hartford Art School in 2012 His father was in the U.S. Air Force so his family moved around a lot but they had family mostly in Central Illinois and often went there to visit. He attended the University of Illinois and shortly after moved to Portland,Oregan to experience a place with more cultural activity. Eights years later he moved to New York City. His book Local Objects puts everyday objects into the spotlight. Although these objects are ordinary there is an unusual element to the images that captivate the viewer. The book is comprised of 74 medium format vertical photos all in black and white. His images show physical distance from the subject matter. Carpenter says his inspiration for this was Marilynne Robinson’s novel Housekeeping, where a major theme is our disconnectedness from the world. He uses a higher ap...

Garrett curfman Final project proposal

For my final project I have decided to take photos of city atmospheres. This may include city scapes building, and items that reflect the city atmosphere. I chose to do this because I love big cities. New York City is my favorite place. Myself alone in the maze of concrete buildings and seeing all the unique aspects of the city get me inspired to create. There is so much personality and stories to be told by the streets and buildings that I pass everyday in downtown state college.  I plan on photographing buildings, streets, alleys, and different items found in the city environment that further reflect where the photos are taken. I may come in contact with a few challenges when creating this project. The one that really sticks out is the weather. For the next several weeks, it’s going to be cold so taking that in consideration of how much time I spend outside will be interesting. Another is locations. I will need to broaden my horizons and find new places that I haven’t photogra...

Skinner: Final Project Proposal

Liz Skinner Photo 202 final proposal 1.       For my final photography 202 project I want to show the most eye-catching architecture within my daily travels. From the Centre County area to my travels home for thanksgiving break I want to capture my favorite pieces that I pass by every day. I want to make places appeal to others and have their architecture stand out the most. 2.       I want to photograph the elements that make up architecture and what makes them so eye-catching to everyday viewers. I want to show the most important parts of places and have the viewer understand the importance of these places to others.  3.       I plan on revisiting the subjects over the last few weeks of classes after I get feedback on my first few weeks of images to improve upon angle, what to cut out of photos and how to make the areas and buildings more appealing to the eye. 4.     ...

Abby Bennett - Final Project Proposal

Final Project Proposal  For my final project, I intended to photograph my hometown of State College. My plan is to evoke a feeling of hometown through landscape and narrative photos. I want to photograph this subject in order to capture and share the places around town where I have memories. I want to capture what State College is like now. I think in a few years State College is going to be a much bigger place and I want to remember the town I grew up in. It will be very easy for me to revisit the subject since we are in State College. In order to build on critique I will easily be able to revisit the places and activities as before. I have a lot of different places in town I want to photograph so I don’t think I will run out of places. I think people will be interested in my photographs because mostly everyone has a hometown and can relate to the feeling of being home. Through my photos I hope people get a sense of comfort and nostalgia. The only challenge I anticipate run...

John Gossage John Gossage born in 1946 is an american photographer. He became interested in photography at an early age, dropping out of school at age 16. He4 then took private lessons with Lisette Mode l, Alexey Brodovitc h, and Bruce Davidson . "John photographs everyday things. They have no specific provenance or national identity aside from being found in that place, on that day, at that moment. They are something, nothing, and then something else in the involution and inflorescence of life. His pictures are subjective and then objective, only to become subjective again. They pull forward and back, inward and out; stills in the vortex of eternity. Space remains infinite until it is confined; once bounded it grows newly boundless. What is common becomes picture, story" (Marlene Klein, epilogue). The book is called "pomodori a grappolo". I chose to use the exact quotations to describe exactly what the book holds and reflects because it is the clearest and most...

Mike Ferrone - Final Project Proposal

For my final project, I intend on photographing long exposures of the sky and stars at night. I want to photograph the sky with long exposures because it is something I have never tried before. I have always though night photos were incredible to look at, so I would like to give it a try myself. I think I will easily be able to revisit this subject after critiques because it is new to me. It will probably be a process to get used to and because of that I will always have room to improve. Viewers will find it interesting because I want to photograph the sky and stars but also include frames in the photos whether it is trees, frames I create, or something interesting I find to photograph through. I want them to have more depth to them than just the sky. I do anticipate there being a few challenges to this. I have never done it before, so there will be a learning curve. Also, we are in State College. The weather can be unpredictable, and there could be no clear ni...

Nino Migliori      Nino Migliori is a photographer from Bologna, Italy. He was born September 29, 1926 and is 93 years old today. The book “Walls” is a compilation of photos taken over 30 years by Migliori who was looking to explore the way that the walls that people walk by everyday could tell a story. His compositions are very simple. For the most part, he photographs the walls straight on, focusing on a small section. A lot of the photos are abstract in that you cannot tell specifically what is on the wall, but with many of them, it is possible to make out shapes or even faces like one would do with clouds. Migliori grew up and lived through World War II where his hometown of Bologna was part of the action. A lot of the events from his early years were the inspiration for him to take pictures of walls because they showed layers and the hardships the areas had faced. The walls around him told the stories of the locations he was in without using any words. H...

Shuyao Wang's final project proposal

I want to photography the benefits and beauty of things especially the landscapes in the morning. I intend to photograph it because I really enjoy the morning in a day, because of the fresh air, healthy lifestyle, most beautiful views in a day. But I find that many of my friends and even me sometimes prefer to stay up late and get up nearly at noon. Thus, we miss the whole morning and couldn’t have a choice to feel the benefits of morning. I think it is not good and bad for our healthy. And we couldn’t understand  important of morning more and more after we continuing following the wrong track. I hope to use this time to  photography morning and its beauty to convey the feeling of morning in a day give me and show the advantages of morning to remind myself the importance of morning. I think it can also be a strong prove to the people who couldn’t understand the importance of morning its benefits. The factual pictures may be a better choice than verbal words.  I plan ...

The photos took by GOTZ DIERGARTEN. Every photos in the book has the same style that they are both very brisk and bright. They are all about the building, blocks, labels, windows, fake brick, garage door, things that we are very familiar with in our daily life. But he uses different view angles and perspective to depict their beauty we did not notice in daily life. He did not photograph their whole appearance. Instead, he just chooses one part of compound which can show comfortable contrastive colors and words helps strength the aesthetic perception. Thus, he mainly transforms his objects into abstract colors spaces and fields. His work are characterized by the clear, documentary style which made the whole photos look very clean and organized. Every single one of them include grounds and leaves space around the main objects. They are all used by frontal view, diffuse light, and close cropping. The only difference is just the objects themselves. There are also strong linked between typo...
